Did You Know: “My Sharona” By The Knack

Today on ‘Tickets @ 2’ The Knack is back with “My Sharona.” The Knack was from the San Fernando Valley, featuring lead singer Doug Fieger who wrote the lyrics about a girl he met in a clothing store. There was a big age difference, Doug was 8 years older than Sharona Alperin.

About a year after they first met in that clothing store, Sharona gave in and started dating. She joined the band on tour and watched as the song Doug wrote about her elevate them to stardom. After a cooling off period, Alperin and Fieger became friends, Alperin was with Fieger the last week of his life, he died of cancer on February 14, 2010.

“My Sharona” was the best-selling single of 1979.

When we play it between two and three we’ll take caller #10 at 1-800-232-KRTH (5784) to win a pair of tickets to see a summer tradition at the Bowl, it’s The Grease Sing-Along at the Hollywood Bowl in July.
