There was a big upset at the 25th Annual Ugliest Dog Contest in Petaluma, Calif. over the weekend, because this year’s winner is, well, kinda pretty cute.

The contest, which judges dogs on their “natural ugliness in both pedigree and mutt classes,” highlights those pups that may get overlooked in traditional dog competitions to showcase that beauty really comes from the inside.

This year’s winner of the 25th Annual Ugliest Dog Contest is a beagle/boxer/basset hound mix named Walle, who broke a long tradition of hairless Chihuahua and Chinese Crested being named winners of the contest, reports USA Today.

The reason he was chosen the winner of the contest was because Walle, “looked like he’s been photo-shopped with pieces from various dogs and maybe a few other animals,” judge Brian Sobel said. Judges added that his waddle walk also helped him win.

Owner Tammie Barbee said that “People come up to me and say that dog is not right, but I love him.”
