Today on ‘Tickets @ 2′ it’s “Do You Love Me?” by The Contours written by Motown president Berry Gordy Jr. He wrote it with The Temptations in mind, but they failed to arrive for the recording session. At the same time in a different Motown studio the Contours arrived from a hop to record “It Must Be Love,” but Gordy asked them to record this song instead.

It became one of Motown’s first hits. It was featured years later in the 1988 movie Dirty Dancing, and as a result charted for a second time. It was a good fit considering the movie featured some modern songs, set in 1963, a year after “Do You Love Me?” was released in 1962.

When we play it between two and three we’ll take caller #7 to 1-800-232-KRTH (5784) to win a pair of tickets to see Lionel Richie at the historic Hollywood Bowl in October.
