This afternoon’s ‘Tickets @ 2’ song is “I’ll Take You There” by The Staple Singers.

This was the first of two # 1 hits for the Staple Singers. The other is “Let’s Do It Again.” The Staple Singers were among the first groups to move from Gospel to Soul music.

The group consisted of Cleotha Staples, Roebuck “Pops” Staples, Mavis Staples, and Yvonne Staples. Last February Cleotha Staples died after a long battle with Alzheimer’s, she was 78. Cleotha suffered from the disease for 12 years, she was the distinctive soprano in the group.

We’ll be looking for caller number 10 when we play “I’ll Take You There” between two and three at 1-800-232-KRTH (5784) to win a pair of tickets to see Roger Daltrey of Who fame in August at the O.C. Fair, benefiting ‘Teen Cancer America.’
