There’s nothing more embarrassing for a singer than forgetting the lyrics to the National Anthem in front of hundreds of people, especially when that’s multiplied by millions when a public flub goes viral online.

We can’t help but feel for this singer Alexis Normand of Canada whose rendition of “The Star-Spangled Banner” has been dubbed “The Star-Mangled Banner” after she struggles through the lyrics of the song.

Normand appeared before the 2013 Memorial Cup game between the Portland Winterhawks and the Halifax Mooseheads on Sunday to sing both Canada’s and America’s national anthems. She got through her nation’s anthem “O Canada”  with flying colors, but when she took on the “The Star-Spangled Banner” that’s when things got messy.

After forgetting the lyrics, Normand powered through the song, mumbling the lyrics and at one point starting over in the middle of the song. The audience tried their best to help out Normand by singing along to the lyrics, but the damage was already done.
