Today’s ‘Tickets @ 2’ song is “My Sharona” by The Knack.
Knack lead singer Doug Fieger wrote it about a girl whom he met at a clothing store where a high school student named Sharona Alperin worked. The age difference was 8 years between Fieger and Alperin, he was older but that didn’t stop him from being lovestruck.
They started dating, and she joined the band on tour and watched as the song written about her elevated the group to stardom. Doug’s Rock and Roll lifestyle became too much for Sharona, and they called it off. Alperin was with Fieger the last week of his life, he died of cancer on February 14th, 2010.
In the U.S., “My Sharona” was the best-selling single of 1979.
When we play it between two and three we’ll take caller #15 at 1-800-232-KRTH (5784) to win a pair of tickets to see The Rolling Stones during their 50 and counting Tour…Saturday, May 18th at the Honda Center.
