Following a highly successful 2012 Fall tour, the surviving members of the Monkees (Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith and Peter Tork) are reuniting again for a fairly extensive tour that will see them trek across the US for 24 dates this Summer. A Midsummer’s Night With the Monkees begins July 15th at Port Chester’s recently reopened Capitol Theatre and will finish just over a month later in Portland, OR at Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall on August 18th.

“The reaction to the last tour was euphoric,” Micky Dolenz told Rolling Stone. “It was pretty apparent there was a demand for another one.”

The Monkees will perform their material chronologically: starting with early hits like “Last Train to Clarksville” and “I’m a Believer” before moving on to their 1967 LP Headquarters and closing with their final albums before Michael Nesmith‘s departure in 1970. The return of Nesmith to the Fall 2012 tour created buzz and excitement among fans, adding to its success.

“That went a long way towards convincing him that people do want to see him again and hear his songs,” said Dolenz.

The Fall 2012 and Summer 2013 tours are also the first without Davy Jones, who passed away in February 2012 of a severe heart attack due to atherosclerosis at the age of 66. Jones’s legacy was one the Monkees relied on heavily during the Fall tour, but Dolenz says that won’t be the case this Summer.

“This time we probably won’t lean so heavily on the David situation,” Dolenz remarks. “I think we have to move on… He’ll always be remembered and acknowledged, but possibly not as much as on that particular tour.”

Tickets for the A Midsummer’s Night With the Monkees tour go on sale May 3rd.
