America’s sweetheart Reese Witherspoon took a page right out of Lindsay Lohan’s book this weekend after she and her husband were arrested for disorderly conduct and DUI in Atlanta.
According to TMZ, the Oscar-winning actress’ husband Jim Toth was pulled over by officers after their car was seen weaving in and out of lanes early Friday morning. As officers conducted a sobriety test on Toth, Witherspoon allegedly started acting up and shouted, “Do you know my name?” to which the officer answered saying, “No, I don’t need to know your name.”
Witherspoon then came back with “You’re about to find out who I am … You are going to be on national news.” The actress then disobeyed officer instructions to stay in her car twice, upon which she was then arrested for disorderly conduct and booked with her husband.
The two were released from jail a short time later, but not before taking the dreaded mug shot, in which Witherspoon avoids eye contact.
Last night, Witherspoon released a statement to Us Weekly on the incident saying, “Out of respect for the ongoing legal situation, I cannot comment on everything that is being reported right now. But I do want to say I clearly had one drink too many and I am deeply embarrassed about the things I said. It was definitely a scary situation and I was frightened for my husband, but that was no excuse. I was disrespectful to the officer who was just doing his job. I have nothing but respect for the police and I am very sorry for my behavior.”
