There’s nothing more frustrating than getting an annoying song stuck in your head all day, but according to a new study, there might be a handy solution to putting a stop to those dastardly ‘earworms.’

Researches at Western Washington University have found a cure to ceasing your inner jukebox when a catchy song just won’t stop playing over and over, reports the Daily Mail. According to the study, simply doing a word puzzle in your head, like an anagram, will force the song to stop playing.

Researchers discovered these results after playing catchy pop tunes for participants and giving them puzzles to solve to help stop the earworms. They found that simple four-five letter anagrams had the best results, as well as an easy Sudoku puzzle or just reading a good novel.

They also found that the most common songs to get stuck in a person’s head are “Bad Romance” by Lady Gaga, “Single Ladies” by Beyonce and “I Wanna Hold Your Hand” by The Beatles.

So the next time you get a song stuck in your head, just start making words in your head out of other words to make it stop…it’s science!
