Did You Know: “Africa” By Toto

The ‘Tickets @ 2’ song today is a number-one from Toto, it’s “Africa.”

Toto keyboard player David Paich wrote the song, and explained in the album liner notes: “At the beginning of the ’80s I watched a late night documentary on TV about all the terrible death and suffering of the people of Africa. It both moved and appalled me and the pictures just wouldn’t leave my head.”

David didn’t think the song would do as well as it did, we were just looking for a song to close off the album. The album won a Grammy for Album Of The Year.

Toto was a group of top studio musicians before forming.

When we play it between two and three we’ll be looking for lucky caller #13 1-800-232-KRTH (5784) to win a pair of tickets to see Three Dog Night and The Grass Roots at the Pacific Amphitheatre July 19th.
