This weekend is the premiere of HBO’s anticipated movie adaptation about the complex life of legendary music producer Phil Spector, played by Oscar-nominated actor, Al Pacino.

The movie tackles a dramatized tale of Spector’s rise and fall from his influential music career after he was convicted of fatally shooting model and actress Lana Clarkson in 2008. The film focuses on the relationship between Spector and his defense attorney, Linda Kenney Baden, played by Helen Mirren.

During the film’s New York premiere last week, Pacino talked about portraying this complicated role  alongside co-star Helen Mirren. Pacino said that the film’s eccentric costumes inspired by Spector helped him get into character, revealing that in particular, he liked wearing the assortment of wigs of Spector’s most memorable court-room hair styles.

“I was just getting started when the shoot was over!” Pacino joked to CNN at the movie’s New York premiere. “I like wigs!”

It turns out that this role wasn’t the first time Pacino donned wigs before, he revealed a personal tidbit not many fans knew about before.

“I wore wigs once, I had a thing called alopecia areata,” the 72-year-old actor said. “When you get stressed sometimes you lose your hair. And I lost a lot of my hair at one point. It simply fell out ’cause I had a sort of stressful time. And I had to do movies with that, so we used wigs, and then I got used to [them]! I thought it was easier! You know, you just put the thing on like a hat, you know, tighten it up. Always stays the same, doesn’t bother. You gotta stay out of the pool though!”

HBO’s Phil Spector premieres this Sunday, March 24th at 9 p.m. Listen below to hear more on the HBO’s Phil Spector movie and clips from the film.
