One of the original hosts of ABC’s long-running daytime talk show The View is leaving her post. Joy Behar has announced that she will not be returning to the show after her contract ends in August, ending her 16 and a half years as one of the familiar faces on the show.

“It seemed like the right time,” she told Deadline in a phone interview. “You reach a point when you say to yourself, ‘Do I want to keep doing this?’ There are other things on my plate I want to do — I’ve been writing a play, I’ve been neglecting my standup.”

Behar will pursue other options for a new TV shows and reportedly had a meeting with CNN’s Jeff Zucker for a possible new show on CNN.

Shortly after announcing her news, ABC released a full statement about her departure saying “Joy Behar has been instrumental in the success of The View from the very beginning. We wish her all the best in this next chapter, and are thrilled that we have her for the remainder of the season.”

After her departure from the show, Barbara Walters will be the only original co-host remaining on the show.

“I have a lot of friends there, and I will miss everyone I’ve worked with because we have a family there,” Behar said.
