After four decades since first playing the role of Princess Leia in the Star Wars series, actress Carrie Fisher has announced she’ll be reprising her famous role in Disney’s upcoming Star Wars film.
But don’t get your hopes up so fast, new reports reveal that Fisher may have jumped the gun on this big announcement. After telling Palm Beach Illustrated that she’ll be playing an ‘elderly’ Princess Leia in the upcoming movie, it seems as though Fisher may have just been yanking our chain.
“She was joking,” a rep for Fisher told CNN about her comment. “Nothing has been announced.”
Fisher is reportedly interested in the aspect of reprising her famed role, but nothing is currently in writing for the new Star Wars. Though Fisher did give her thoughts on what her role as Leia would be like today.
“Elderly. She’s in an intergalactic old folks’ home,” Fisher joked to Illustrated. “I just think she would be just like she was before, only slower and less inclined to be up for the big battle.”
Only time will tell if Fisher will actually be coming back as Leia, but other rumors that original Star Wars actors will be reprising their roles are also surfacing. According to reports, Harrison Ford and Mark Hamill have also shared interested in joining the cast in the new film.
