If you ever dreamed about sleeping in Elvis’ bed, you have the chance to make that dream come true, if you have some extra cash to spend.
Elvis’ stylish white fur bed from his Graceland home is going up on the auction block for charity this week by the fine furniture service White Glove Transportation in New York.
This morning Neil Deutsch, the director of White Glove Transportation, called in to tell us a little more about this iconic piece of music memorabilia that’s up for sale all for a good cause.
Neil tells us that the company acquired this wild bed after the owner stopped making payments on the storage unit they were keeping it in at his company.
Distinctive of Elvis’ lavish taste, the customized bed features a round design with a towering headboard completely covered in white fur. The headboard also comes with a unique feature that Neil explains to us.
“The bed has a spot for a black and white TV and an 8-track tape player,” said Neil. “It’s pretty shaggy, but they refer to it as a furry bed.”
He jokingly adds, “We might have found some bacon bits in it when we had it.”
How much does Neil expect a bed that the King of Rock and Roll slept in to fetch for at the auction? He tells us he expects this furry dream-bed to go between the $20,000-$50,000 range.
If you don’t have the extra 20 grand to throw around and purchase the bed, Neil also tells us that Elvis fans can still see it in person on display at their 2nd Annual Winter Designer Fine Furniture Sale.
“I’ll have an Elvis impersonator there to liven things up,” Neil adds.
The 2nd Annual Winter Designer Fine Furniture Sale takes place on March 9-10 at the Altman Building in New York City. Proceeds from the auction benefit the non-profit organization Alpha Workshops, which provides creative HIV-positive individuals with training and employment in the decorative arts.
