This afternoon on ‘Tickets @ 2′ it’s a Doobie Brothers smash “Long Train Runnin’.”

Doobie Brothers guitarist and lead singer (before Michael McDonald) wrote the song, which they played live for three years before recording.

Johnston said: “Generally I write the music first, and sometimes I have a devil of a time getting the words. Sometimes they come right away, and sometimes it’s like pulling teeth.” He went on to say: “I think we started playing it in the Chateau a ‘biker’ bar in the Santa Cruz mountains, that would have been around 1970-71. We recorded the song putting the finishing touch on the lyrics sitting in the bathroom at Amigo Studios in Burbank, which doesn’t exist anymore.”

When you hear it come on the radio between two and three we’ll take caller #10 at 1-800-232-KRTH (5784) to win a pair of tickets to see Styx in concert at the Pacific Amphitheatre in August.
