A bizarre story coming from the town of Belo Horizonte, Brazil involves a series of unrelated crimes involving several suspects all named ‘John Lennon.’
Four criminals all bearing the name after The Beatles star were arrested in the Brazilian town in the past couple of months. The first suspect, John Lenon Gomes, 22, was arrested back on Dec. 19th in connection of five murders.
On Jan. 8, police arrested John Lennon Ferreira, 22, during an attempted robbery, and one day later a third man, 18-year-old John Lennon da Silva was found dead in what authorities have called a revenge murder.
The fourth suspect, John Lennon Ribeiro Siqueira, 19, was taken into custody last Friday after an attempted robbery.
According to the NY Daily News, Police claim the unusual crime phenomenon of all men being name a version of ‘John Lennon’ is because of the huge popularity of the band in Brazil. After Lennon was gunned down in New York in 1980, police say thousands of mothers named their sons in memory of the legendary singer.
