It’s the big non-controversy of the presidential inauguration that everyone is talking about – Beyonce ‘sang’ to a pre-recorded track for her performance of the National Anthem as President Obama was sworn in for his second term.
The lip-synch revelation was confirmed by the New York Post after speaking with the U.S. Marine Band spokeswoman Kristin DuBois.
“All music is pre-recorded for the ceremony because there are so many eventualities and conditions that day,” DuBois told Page Six. “We performed, live, the band. But we received last-minute word that Beyoncé was going to use the pre-recorded vocal track. Those were the instructions we were given. We don’t know what the reason why.”
The news that Beyonce of all people was caught lip-synching left many fans bewildered, because we all know she can sing, so why use a track?
Colonel Michael J. Colburn told Buzzfeed that the band didn’t have an opportunity to rehearse much with Beyonce before the big day. “Beyoncé, she’s getting ready for the Super Bowl, so we didn’t have a chance to do anything with her until last night so it’s a very, very tight window of opportunity.”
Not enough rehearsal time, the cold temperatures, saving her voice for the Super Bowl – all these things could have played a factor in Beyonce’s decision to use a pre-recorded track, but in the end, does it really matter to you that she lip-synched?
