The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has announced the initial round of performers and presenters set to honor 2013′s inductees, according to an official press release.
Don Henley (Rock Hall class of ’98) will present the induction speech for Randy Newman, while Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins of the Foo Fighters will help induct Rush. (We imagine the Foos will perform as well, as Grohl rarely turns down an opportunity to jam the classics and/or with his idols.) It’s worth noting that Eagles drummer/singer Henley worked with Newman on his 1993 musical/rock opera Faust, providing the voice of the lead character.
Additionally, pop divas Christina Aguilera and Jennifer Hudson will perform in honor of Donna Summer, who died just last May. Representing the new generation of guitar gods, John Mayer and Gary Clark Jr. will honor early bluesman Albert King at the ceremony; Clark will perform and Mayer will make the induction speech.
No word on who will induct Heart, Public Enemy or Quincy Jones, who receives this year’s Ahmet Ertegun Award for Lifetime Achievement. More are expected to be announced in the coming months, and there are usually surprises at these ceremonies.
This year’s Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony takes place April 18 at Los Angeles’ Nokia Theatre. The ceremony will be broadcast on HBO on May 18 at 9 p.m.
Fans can purchase tickets to the event beginning February 1 at 10 a.m. PST, via Ticketmaster.
