After years of denial, cyclist Lance Armstrong confessed what has been suspected throughout his career that he was in fact a doper.
In a “no-holds barred” interview with Oprah Winfrey, Lance finally admitted to using performance enhancing drugs before each of his Tour de France races, reveling the truth about his wins. Oprah kicked things right off the bat with a series of yes or no questions about taking banned substances.
- Oprah: “Did you ever take banned substances to enhance your cycling performance?”
- Lance: “Yes.”
- Oprah: “Was one of those banned substances EPO?”
- Lance: “Yes.”
- Oprah: “Did you ever blood dope or use blood transfusions?”
- Lance: “Yes.”
- Oprah: “Did you use any other banned substances like testosterone, cortisone and human growth hormone?”
- Lance: “Yes.”
Oprah later asked the question what many of us have been wondering if Lance thought it was “humanly possible to win the Tour de France without doping seven times in a row,” to which he replied “not in my opinion.”
As you know, Lance was stripped of his seven Tour de France wins and bronze medal in the Sydney Olympics. Lance’s admission, they say, is only one very small step back in the right direction.
