She may be one of the new superstar American Idol judges giving aspiring singers a chance to make their dreams come true, but back in 1990, a shy, 20-year-old Mariah Carey was just starting to take over the charts with her first breakout single “Vision Of Love” and on her way to diva-status.
After her first single rocketed to No.1 on the charts, Mariah sat in for her very first radio interview with the Z100 morning show in New York, who just so happened to be hosted by K-EARTH’s own Gary Bryan!
Luck would have it that someone was in the studio with a video camera and recorded this interview, behind the scenes and all, and posted it on YouTube years later for us to stumble upon.
In the interview, Mariah talks about how she turned her five-song demo tape into a record deal, hearing her song for the first time on the radio, and takes listeners’ questions on becoming the next big superstar.
