A popular New Year’s resolution made by many is to cut back on the daily caffeine intake, but while you’re still going strong day two into your resolution, you might be feeling the sluggish side-effects from not enjoying your morning (or afternoon) pick-me-up.
If you’re already having second thoughts about making a resolution to give up coffee, the folks over at Yahoo! Shine shared four easy tips to help boost your energy without any caffeine. Try out these tricks first before you break that resolution!
1. Take a break — Feeling overwhelmed or tired at work? An easy way to get that boost of productivity to get you through the rest of the day is to simply take a break. Break free from your desk for a short period by taking a walk outside or around the building, or just turn away from the computer screen for a few minutes and return feeling more productive.
2. Stretch — Sitting at a desk for eight hours a day will put a strain on anyone’s body and mind, but doing simple yoga stretches can help bring back some of that much-needed energy. Couple that with some light meditation and feel twice as energized!
3. Tap your Thymus — What’s a Thymus, you say? It’s located in the center-top of the chest, underneath the collarbone and between the breasts. According to nutrition coach Marian Buck-Murray, tapping it for 20 seconds while slowly breathing in and out “triggers the production of T-cells, boosts energy, relieves stress, and increases strength and vitality.”
4. Peppermint — Who knew that the cool, refreshing scent of peppermint can actually give you a surge of energy! A perfect fragrance for wintertime, the menthol in peppermint helps you breathe easier throughout the day. Try keeping a bottle of peppermint oil handy for that quick-fix of energy you need!
