As 2012 comes to a close, we’re revisiting the year’s biggest stories through the lens of some of our station’s biggest artists. The Eagles is still one of the most popular bands ever, and have kept busy in the past year.
Status: Still together: the band is comprised by co-founders/co-leaders Don Henley (drums, guitar, vocals) and Glenn Frey (guitar, piano, vocals) along with Joe Walsh (guitar, vocals) and Timothy B. Schmit (bass, vocals). They did a few shows together, but it 2012 was mostly about the principal members’ solo careers.
New Albums Released: Glenn Frey mined the “Great American Songbook” and released After Hours, with standards like “For Sentimental Reasons” alongside some more contemporary songs like The Beach Boys’ “Caroline, No” and Burt Bacharach’s “The Look Of Love.” Walsh, meanwhile, teamed up with producer (and former Electric Light Orchestra member Jeff Lynne) to put out his first solo album in 20 years, Analog Man. Neither Henley nor Schmit released new albums, but both did solo concerts.
Get Over It: The band still don’t communicate with former guitarist Don Felder, who was fired in 2001. He released his first album in nearly three decades, Road To Forever, in 2012.
Meanwhile, In Nashville: Longtime friend of the band J.D. Souther (who wrote or co-wrote many of their biggest hits, including “Best Of My Love,” “Victim Of Love” and “How Long,” got a recurring role on the ABC drama Nashville.
In 2013: Expect to see part one of their long-awaited documentary, for while all current and former members of the band were interviewed. Walsh, Schmit and Felder all talked to CBS Local about the film.
