From touring as Bruce Springsteen’s right hand man in the E Street Band, hosting his own radio show, his role on The Sopranos and now his venture into working in movies, ‘Little Steven’ Van Zandt has dabble in many areas of the entertainment world. Steven called in this morning to talk about his latest project working as the musical supervisor for the new David Chase movie Not Fade Away, and his incredible year.
“This year’s been exceptional,” said Steven. “I really do enjoy everything I do. Some people just know me as a DJ from my radio show. Lately I’ve been working on this Rascals reunion – that’s something really new for me…and this movie I just did with David Chase has been really a pleasure and it turned out really great.”
The movie follows a group of friends who start a band shortly after discovering the music of The Beatles and Rolling Stones, and like many teens growing up then, Steven’s eyes were opened up to the world of rock and roll music.
When asked what it was like at the beginning of playing music for him, Steven says he was just like the characters in the movie.
“I can totally related to this movie. If this movie wasn’t David Chase’s life, it certainly would have been mine,” said Steven.
On a personal note, Lisa Stanley had to ask about Steven’s signature look wearing do-rags everyday and how many he really has in his collection.
“That’s an important question,” laughs Steven. “I guess dozens and dozens of them … people send them to me, and I wear them!”
