Now that the holiday rush for exclusive store discounts during Black Friday and Cyber Monday have subsided, it’s time to take a break from all that shopping madness and start a brand new holiday tradition with ‘Giving Tuesday.’
With two designated days set aside to kickoff the holiday shopping season, the concept of Giving Tuesday focuses on the selfless act of doing something good for others, whether that be donating to charity, volunteering, or just lending a helping hand in your community.
Giving Tuesday organizers are encouraging all who may have stocked up on holiday deals to embrace this new tradition of a day set aside for giving back.
The official Giving Tuesday website writes:
On Tuesday November 27, 2012 charities, families, businesses and individuals are coming together to transform the way people think about, talk about and participate in the giving season.
It’s a simple idea. Find a way for your family, your community, your company or your organization to join in acts of giving. Tell everyone you care about what you are doing and why it matters. Join a national celebration of our great tradition of generosity.
Even a few celebrities have used their voice to help spread the word of Giving Tuesday by encouraging their followers on Twitter to do the same.
So what will you do to give back for the first ever Giving Tuesday?
