Jackie Guthrie, wife of folk-singer Arlo Guthrie, passed away Sunday at the age of 68 at the couple’s winter home in Sebastian, Florida. She was diagnosed with an inoperable liver cancer in September.

In response, Arlo has postponed several U.S. tour dates this week, but will still kick off a Canadian tour next week as planned.

Guthrie shared the news of Jackie’s passing and described their relationship on his Facebook, stating, “There are loves, and there are LOVES. Ours was and will continue to be what it has always been – A very great love. We didn’t always like each other. From time to time there were moments when we’d have our bags packed by the door. But, there was this great love that we shared from the moment we met – a recognition – It’s YOU! And we would always return to it year after year, decade after decade and I believe life after lifetime.”

The couple met in 1968 while Jackie worked as a cashier at the The Troubador concert club in Hollywood. They recently celebrated their 43rd wedding anniversary.

Jackie is survived her four children with Arlo, a daughter with David Crosby, and 10 grandchildren.

Arlo Guthrie is the son of folk legend Woody Guthrie and is most commonly recognized for his 18-minute satirical song “Alice’s Restaurant Massacree.”
