The newest primetime NBC drama Chicago Fire is heating up our TVs after its big debut last night, and we had the pleasure of talking with one of its stars this morning!
Actor David Eigenberg, which many may know him by his character Steve who was Cynthia Nixon’s boyfriend on Sex & The City, is bringing the thrill and danger of firefighting to the small screen.
His character Christopher Herrmann on Chicago Fire is one of the veteran fire fighters in the department and keeps the younger guys in line. He tells us that many of the stunts seen in the show aren’t the result of Hollywood magic, but are done with a team of seasoned professionals and with real fire!
“We got a few short hairs singed here and there; we’re wearing real gear. They fire it up, it gets hot,” said David.
Luckily, David and the cast got some training by the best of the best from Chicago’s own for two weeks at the Fire Academy. Just like real fire fighters, this jobs isn’t for the faint of heart.
David tells us that this show, like many movies and TV shows about fire fighting, is set in Chicago because “by their own admission, they’re a really aggressive fire department. They put safety first, but their main mission is search and rescue and then get the fire out…at the end of the day, they’re a little crazy, but they’re great, great people.”
Chicago Fire airs on Wednesday at 10 p.m. on NBC. Listen to our full interview with David below to hear more about his character and the show!
