To the relief of all football fans, it looks as though the days of bad calls by replacement refs has finally come to an end. The NFL has reached a tentative 8-year deal with its regular officials Wednesday night to end the lockout and return to the field in tonight’s Cleveland-Baltimore game.
“Our officials will be back on the field starting [Thursday] night,” NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement, according to Yahoo!
Serious talks to end the ref lockout was triggered after Monday night’s controversial call by the replacement refs officiating the Green Bay-Seattle game. Many frustrated fans, players and sports analysts were outspoken about the bad call that gave Seattle the victory, which pressured the NFL to reach a deal with the NFL Referees Association.
