Did You Know: “Let The Music Play” By Shannon

This afternoon’s ‘Tickets @2’ song is “Let The Music Play” by Shannon.

A college student at the time, Brenda Shannon Greene was invited to audition after being spotted singing with a live band in her cousin’s recording studio by a pair of record executives.

“Let The Music Play” is a combination of Latin American rhythm and melody with electro beats and heavy syncopated drum-machine pattern resulting in an original sound, which became known as Freestyle.

The song was released in 1983 during a period when there was a backlash against disco, the song brought dance music back onto radio and on the charts, it peaked at # 8. Other popular Freestyle artists included Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam and Expose.

When we ‘Let The Music Play’ between two and three we’ll take caller # 12 at 1-800-232-KRTH (5784) to win a pair of tickets to see Clint Eastwood’s new movie “Trouble With The Curve” courtesy of Regal Entertainment group.
