Nigel Lythgoe Stays Mum On Randy Jackson’s ‘American Idol’ Deal
The executive producer of American Idol, Nigel Lythgoe, joined us on air this morning to talk about the latest rumors of Randy Jackson’s involvement for next season.
Jackson revealed in a recent interview that there’s talks of him staying on as a judge and the deal isn’t final on what he’ll be doing on Idol, but Nigel isn’t confirming anything just yet.
“I’ll think I’ll leave it to Randy, and if Simon wants to talk about ‘American Idol,’ I’m very happy about that too,” laughed Nigel.
But Nigel did share his thoughts on all the competing singing shows battling on air these days, particularly former Idol judge Simon Cowell’s X Factor and The Voice going up head to head.
“I thought it was very funny that Simon said it was very ‘ungentlemanly’ and then when Mark Burnett was approached he turned around and was like ‘oh is the X-Factor on? I didn’t realize,’” laughed Nigel. “It’s going to be a lot of fun. The banter between those guys is going to be great.”
Nigel is also gearing up for the season finale of his other hit competition show, So You Think You Can Dance. The two-hour performance finale airs tonight and next week the winning pair will be revealed in the results show.
Nigel commented on this year’s finalists saying, “We have such diversity in the finalists this year…It’s a really challenging final.”
Be sure to catch the season final tonight at 8 PM on FOX! Listen to our full interview with Nigel below!
