We start the week on ‘Tickets @ 2′ with The King and “Suspicious Minds.”
This was the last # 1 hit for Elvis during his lifetime, although a remixed version of “A Little Less Conversation” reached # 1 in the UK in 2002.
Memphis singer Mark James wrote the song and recorded his own version but it went nowhere. A Memphis producer brought the song to Presley in 1969, and Elvis immediately fell in love with it and decided he could turn it into a hit, even though it flopped for the guy who wrote and sang it, Mark James.
The song was recorded between 4 – 7 in the morning, during a landmark Memphis session. It was a big comeback song for “The King” since it was 7 years since his last # 1 hit.
When we play it between two and three we’ll take caller # 7 to win a 4-pack of tickets to see the live-action arena show “Batman Live” September 27th at Staples Center. 1-800-232-KRTH.(5784)
