Marines are known to be disciplined, but this challenge takes some serious dedication. Sgt. Enrique Trevino is helping bring awareness to a worthy cause of the Wounded Warrior Project by taking on the goal of 1 million pushups in one year.
It all started as a New Year’s resolution to complete 1 million pushups in 2012, but then dedicated his goal to raise awareness and a total of $20,000 for the Wounded Warriors Project, which helps out injured vets who’ve served in Iraq and Afghanistan.
“I want to give back to my brothers and sisters in the armed forces, who have had so much taken away from them,” Trevino told myfoxdc.com.
So far he’s on track of his goal, completing around 2, 732 pushups ever single day in order to reach his goal of 1 million within 365 days. He’s passed the 500,000 mark and has raised a total of $17,000 so far for the nonprofit.
Plus, he’s documenting his progress on his Facebook page and YouTube account to show supporters his impressive accomplishments along the way.
“People who are suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, those are the scars that are not seen … people don’t notice every day,” Trevino told NBC Miami. “So, I’m just trying to bring awareness to those veterans who are transitioning into the civilian life, and just make sure that they are never forgotten.”
