It’s a #1 smash hit on ‘Tickets @2 today from The Jackson 5 with “ABC” from 1970.
The song was written and produced by a group of Motown songwriters known as “The Corporation.” They were: Freddie Perren, Fonce Mizell, Deke Richards, and Berry Gordy, Jr. Freddie Perren was a former school teacher, which probably influenced the school metaphors in the lyrics.
The song became The Jackson 5′s second #1 hit, knocking out The Beatles’ “Let It Be.”
After the Jacksons were signed to Motown, they moved to Hollywood for a year of rehearsals. Some stayed with Berry Gordy Jr. some with Diana Ross who discovered Michael.
When we play it between two and three we’ll take caller #8 at 1-800-232-KRTH (5784) to win tickets to “Grease Singalong” at the Hollywood Bowl.
