On the heels of their career-spanning retrospective release, Strange Euphoria, earlier this month, the legendary ladies of Heart will release their 14th studio album on October 2nd.
Scheduled to drop on VVN Records, Fanatic is the first studio set from sisters Ann and Nancy Wilson since 2010’s Red Velvet Car. Fanatic is a mix of hotel room recordings and full-on studio productions, recorded under the watchful eye of Ben Mink, who also co-produced Red Velvet Car.
Among the highlighted cuts are “Dear Old America,” a highly personal piece written from the point of view of a Marine returning from war; “Rock Deep (Vancouver),” an ode to the town where Heart’s debut album Dreamboat Annie was created; and “Walkin’ Good,” a duet with fellow Vancouver resident Sarah McLachlan.
“What a crazy year we are having,” Ann Wilson said in a release. “Our box set, Strange Euphoria, and our forthcoming book, Kicking and Dreaming, each tell the story of our lives so far, personally and musically. Our new album, Fanatic, tells our story as it is now and brings it all up-to-the-minute.”
Kicking and Dreaming, an insider’s memoir penned with Charles R. Cross, will be released September 18. Cross, a Seattle journalist and the founder of Bruce Springsteen fan site Backstreets, has previously penned well-received biographies on Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix and Led Zeppelin.
Heart hits the road June 29 for a North American tour through early October.
