Today is the first official day of summer with the Summer Solstice, and as the days get longer and hotter, many Californians will be ditching the layers and opting for a much cooler wardrobe. As many hit the beach to soak in the sun itsy bitsy bikinis (or even some laying out in nothing but their birthday suits), we’re asking you to come up with a list of songs that talk about being…naked.
Here’s a few for inspiration…add any other songs that talk about being naked to the list in the comments below!
“The Streak” — Ray Stevens: This number one hit released in 1974 was a novelty song all about the popular craze of streaking. The song left little to the imagination as the chorus sang “There he goes, look at that, look at that/And he ain’t wearin’ no clothes.”
“Spill The Wine” — Eric Burdon and War: On a hot summer’s day, and after maybe one too many cups of wine, the singer exclaims “I stood high on the mountain top, naked to the world/in front of every kind of girl.”
“Itsy Bitsy Teeny Weeny Yellow Polka Dot Bikini” – Recorded by Brian Hyland, this 1960 novelty song hit #1 on the Billboard charts and was all about a girl wearing her first teeny bikini out in public. But “from the locker to the blanket/from the blanket to the shore/from the shore to the water/yes there isn’t any more,” the girl was so shy about the revealing bikini she wouldn’t come out of the water.
“Splish Splash” — Bobby Darin: This rock hit from 1958 talks about splashing around while taking a bath, which we can only imagine without any clothes on.
“Tequila Makes Her Clothes Come Off” — Joe Nichols: This country hit sings about how nothing good can come from drinking tequila, with the aftermath for one woman being that “tequila makes her clothes fall off.”
