David Bowie Lets You “Ziggyfy” Yourself
David Bowie is as much of an icon in fashion as in music, and for decades, his fans have attempted to emulate his various looks. For those who are still working on it, here’s some good news: there’s an app for that. Two, actually.
The “Ziggy-fy” app is confusingly titled – it actually makes you look like Bowie’s Aladdin Sane character, by putting a red and blue lightning bolt over your face, or by putting a gold circle on your forehead. To use the app, you log in here via Facebook, Twitter or by creating an account with Webdoc, the company hosting the app.
But if Ziggy is more your thing than Aladdin Sane, there’s another app: I Am Ziggy Stardust allows you to actually put yourself on the cover of Bowie’s The Rise And Fall Of Ziggy Stardust And The Spiders From Mars album. You can either use your webcam or upload a photo of your face, and insert it onto the iconic cover image. EMI Senior Director of Online Marketing Jesse Ervin tells CBS Local, “The idea came out of the iconic nature of the album and the album cover.” Noting the strong connection fans have made with the Ziggy character, he adds, “Making a web application like this speaks to that connection.”
The “real” David Bowie has been something of a recluse in recent years, but Ervin says that Bowie has always been interested in coming up with new ways to engage his fans. “Mr. Bowie and his management are very forward thinking and open to new and creative ideas.”
Both of these apps promote the 40th anniversary reissue of David Bowie’s iconic Ziggy Stardust album, which is out now.
