Fresh off winning this season’s Celebrity Apprentice, comedian and talk show legend Arsenio Hall is doing a little good for the L.A. community this weekend.
To help usher in the summer, the LAPD and LAFD want to promote a safe and happy summer for all with a free youth safety festival and basketball game between the LAPD and LAFD — and it’s all hosted by Arsenio!
He joined us this morning along with team captains LAPD Chief Charlie Beck and LAFD Chief Brian Cummings to talk about the free event that will feature special celebrity guests, carnival rides, games, food and more!
The 3rd Annual Safe Summer Tip Off takes Saturday, June 9 from 10:30 am to 3:30 p.m at the USC Galen Center. For more information and to RSVP to the event email 30761@LAPD.LACITY.ORG or call Police Officer Sara Faden, Media Relations section at 213-486-5919.
The charity event is free for all kids, who will also each receive a special gift bag full of goodies from sponsors of the event. In addition, there will also be big prizes including autographed basketballs by the Lakers, tennis shoes, over 300 pairs of sneakers being given away, bicycles and even some celebrity players coming out to the event.
Arsenio has been working with this cause since the very first year and making sure to let the youth in the L.A. community that the LAPD and LAFD are here to help keep us safe.
“I grew up in Cleveland where the police and the firemen were kind of our enemies. We were taught to fear them, we were taught that they were the bad guys,” Arsenio commented. “We’re in a new generation now, where especially here in L.A. — Beck, Cummings are working hard to let kids know that we’re one gang.”
