Actor Grant Bowler has signed on as the male lead to portray Welsh actor and fourth (and fifth) husband to Elizabeth Taylor, Richard Burton, for the upcoming Lifetime biopic Liz and Dick.
Bowler, 43, will play opposite Lindsay Lohan, 25, who’s already been officially confirmed to play the coveted role of the classic movie icon in the biopic for over a month.
If you’re thinking the 18-year age gap between Bowler and Lohan seems extreme, it was all done purposely by execs to help stay true to the real-life relationship of Taylor and Burton.
“Richard Burton was quite older than Elizabeth Taylor. This is from a visual point of view just about equal to Liz and Dick. Visually speaking it is a perfect match,” Liz and Dick producer Larry Thompson explained to E! News.
Bowler has appeared on True Blood, Lost and various other TV and film roles, but his role as the esteemed actor in what has been one of the most talked about movies of the year (largely due to the controversial casting of Lohan) could be Bowler’s big breakout role.
The Lifetime biopic Liz and Dick will chronicle the legendary Hollywood couple’s tumultuous on and off again relationship. Burton was said to be Taylor’s love of her life, first marrying in 1964 after meeting on the set of Cleopatra. They divorced in 1974 only to tie the knot again a year later.
What do you think, did they get the casting right?
