Glenn Frey has made a career as a road warrior. Both with the Eagles or as a solo artist, he has been on the road for a good portion of the past four decades. But according to the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, now is the first time in quite a while that he can justify doing it on his own.

“I finally have, what I consider, a legitimate reason to go out and play,” Frey tells RonParker, referring to his new record. Due out tomorrow, After Hours is a collection of classic love songs that spans generations.

“Part of this record is filled with songs that were out when my parents were growing up. The other part of this record are songs that were out when I was growing up,” says Frey. “This collection of love songs, it’s age appropriate music for me.”

Frey enjoyed working on After Hours and hopes fans will enjoy working on it. Most of the songs are well known covers, including “For Sentimental Reasons,” “Route 66,” and some more modern songs, including a cover of The Beach Boys’ “Caroline, No.” He’s hoping that some fans of his day job check it out.

“I feel so good about this record,” says Frey. “If even a smidgen of them were to pick up this album and put it on, I think they would be in for a real surprise.”

Frey will perform his new record in New York City on May 9th when he plays at Town Hall. As much as he enjoys touring with the Eagles, he admits it is a nice change of pace to hit the road as a solo artist.

“I like the work I do with the Eagles. I enjoy being in a band,” he says. “It’s also nice to go out and do my own thing as well.”

Fans will of course be treated to more than just cuts from After Hours. Frey knows that fans naturally will expect to hear some Eagles classics.

“We’ve figured out ways to put strings on a couple of the familiar songs.”

Here are Frey’s solo tour dates. He’ll also be on tour with The Eagles this summer.

I remember him from the Eagles days and also a particular song he wrote years ago called “Soul Searching”. Great song!
