This morning, local Burbank 7th grade English teacher, Rebecca Milwaukee, was honored by President Barack Obama in the East Room of the White House with the prestigious National Teacher  of the Year Award.

Milwaukee was named the 2012 Teacher of the Year, which earned her a trip to the White House on Monday to be formally honored by the President in a Rose Garden ceremony.

The ceremony, which streamed live online this morning, recognized Milwaukee for her incredible service over her 13 years of teaching, nine of which were spent teaching general education and Gifted And Talented Education (GATE) classes at Luther Burbank Middle School.

Mieliwocki will serve a year as a national education spokeswoman in her role as the 62nd National Teacher of the Year.
