L.A. is The Second Most Hated City In The United States

There are many reasons why people move to L.A.  Fame, fortune, and of course the weather, just to name a few.  And although there are many who make the transition to L.A., according to a new poll, there are plenty who have no desire to do so.

The “American Cities Favorability Poll” was conducted April 12th-15th by Public Policy Polling based in Raleigh, N.C.  A total of 900 Americans were asked a series of questions, 21 of them focusing on some major cities in the U.S.

The question “Do you have a favorable or unfavorable opinion of Los Angeles?” came back with 33% favorable, 40% unfavorable, and 27% were unsure.

Only one other city in the U.S. did worse than L.A., Detroit.

The two top ranking cities in the U.S. are both in the Pacific Northwest, Seattle being the winner with 57% favorable and only 14% unfavorable, followed by Portland with 52% favorable and 12% unfavorable.

This same company conducted a poll last month which came back with California being the least popular state in the U.S.

Do you agree with the results of the poll??

  • Joanne Earl Munie

I think its crap. I lived in both cites, and unless you have been there you can’t judge. Parts of Detroit are bad, parts of LA are bad, but you can’t judge a whole city on only parts. If that was the case there would be a whole lot more at the bottom position.

    900 people….not good enough.

You know what la is a nice city but to make it sound like is the horrible or unfavorable city is not rite cause the city is nice and it would be nicer if people in general wouldn’t trash it.

900 people a poll does not make;5,000 a real poll does not make. If you want to find out if L.A. is a great city to live in, why not ask the people (all 10,000,000 and they’ll tell you if it’s a great city or not, except for the babies and toddlers of course. Hell even the dogs if it’s great!).

I’ve been to L.A. twice and miss those experiences so much (was dreaming their both times and was working on an Eric’s Mirror re-write the second time, but got lonely so came home early).

Like any city, their are bad and good parts of it and if you know what’s good for you, you stay away from the bad areas. The only problem is, is what happens if you have relatives and friends who in those bad areas and you don’t, what do you do then? Do you ALWAYS ask them to come visit you instead? Are you always going to be afraid to go into the bad side of town thinking something bad’s going to happen to. A tough call! I wonder how many people in L.A. or where I’m fronm (Toronto) do that!

Maybe some of those so called bad sections may not be so bad as people make it out to be because of the sections reputation through media coverage (robberies, murders etc). I think the media sometimes tends to exaggerate, don’t you? Maybe they should start covering the good things about the so called bad sections of town. I think that’s a great idea, don’t you? Or at least start! I don’t know about L.A. but I sure believe that they should start doing that more in the bad sections of Toronto. I think it makes sense!

Maybe that way, friends in relatives would be more inclined to visit those so called “bad areas” of town!

How do those songs go, “Chicago is My kind of town” or “L.A. is my Lady” or “New York, New York” or “Toronto: People City” (an old song I remember listening to growing up in the 70’s and early eighties. Still listen to it on fallopian YOUTUBE now and then. Wanna hear it? GIve me a minute. (Need more of those songs then polls I think!)

Sharing is caring and caring is sharing; living is giving and giving is living

What a ridiculous poll! I lived in Montana for 8 years…so if you want hate towards California, that’s the place to find it. They blame Californians for just about everything. One woman commented that she was “afraid” to ever visit L.A, because of all the drug dealers walking on the streets. LOL!! It’s all based n either ignorance jealousy. L.A, as all it’s inhabitants know is a wonderful, diverse city with good areas and bad, as in all cities in the U.S.

I’m guessing there were a lot of jealous Nyu Yawkus in that poll… ;-)
