Your ‘Tickets @ 2′ song of the day is “Bennie And The Jets” by Elton John.

Elton wrote the music to this song as a homage to “Glam Rock,” a style defined by outrageous costumes that was popular in the early ’70s, especially in the UK. Artists like David Bowie, and Gary Glitter got into the act, but for Elton it was an extension of his personality, his wild appearance and collection of gaudy sunglasses.

The falsetto vocal is Elton trying to sound like Frankie Valli. He was a huge fan of Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, and saw The Four Seasons in concert.

When you hear it between two and three this afternoon we’ll take caller #18 at 1-800-232-KRTH (5784) to win a pair of tickets to see Billy Elliot the Musical at the Pantages, in fact the music is by Elton John.
