Welcome to Tuesday Tunes, a brand new weekly feature highlighting just-released albums, reissues and other musical goodies from classic artists.

This week¹s highlight release is from the Night Tripper himself, jazz-funk-rocker Dr. John. For Locked Down, out on Nonesuch today (April 3), John traded his native New Orleans for Nashville. But he had good reason:

Rock¹s new guard came calling, in the form of Black Keys frontman/producer Dan Auerbach, who just opened a new Nashville recording studio called Easy Eye. It was there that John¹s keyboard expertise found its counterpoint in Auerbach¹s impressive guitar skills, and the result is a refreshingly modern record that bridges the gap between classic soul and throwback rock. Jethro Tull¹s Ian Anderson revisits his band¹s 1972 classic concept album, Thick As A Brick, in his new aptly-titled album, Thick As A Brick 2. On the album, the frontman and flutist revisits the original album¹s 8-year-old protagonist, Gerald Bostock. Anderson recently told CBS Radio of the album, ³It wasn¹t about going back and dwelling in some nostalgic moment of what would have happened in 1972 or 1973. It wasn¹t about what happened next, it was a leap 40 years into the future and looking at what might have happened to young Gerald Bostock, and using that as subject material for a concept album. It¹s about the world today.”

Also out this week is a new live collection from British rock troubadour Elvis Costello, who offers up his sixth live album, The Return Of The Spectacular Spinning Songbook. Costello recorded the live album and DVD during a two-night stay at the Wiltern in Los Angeles last year — shows in which Costello played his own version of Wheel of Fortune. He rolled out classics from his expansive discography, based on the fate of a spinning wheel (hence the title).

And finally, Legacy¹s Johnny Cash bootleg series continues with a look at the Man in Black¹s spirituality and contributions to gospel music with Bootleg Vol. IV: The Soul of Truth. The 51-song set presents three of Cash’s numerous gospel albums in their entirety: A Believer Sings The Truth, Johnny Cash — Gospel Singer, and Believe In Him. The set also includes 15 unreleased tracks and outtakes, as well as liner notes from Cash’s children.
