This afternoon’s ‘Tickets @ 2′ song of the day is “Mustang Sally” by [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Wilson Pickett[/lastfm].
According to Rolling Stone magazine’s Top 500 Songs, “Mustang Sally nearly ended up on the studio floor-literally. After Pickett finished his final take at Fame Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, the tape suddenly flew off the reel and the recorder and broke into pieces. But the session engineer, legendary Tom Dowd, calmly cleared the room and told everyone to come back in half an hour. Dowd pieced the tape back together with splicing tape and saved what became one of the funkiest anthems of the ’60s.”
Writer Sir Mack Rice states that this song was originally titled “Mustang Mama” but was changed to “Mustang Sally” at the behest of Aretha Franklin.
When we play it between two and three we’ll take caller #8 to win a pair of tickets to see Batman Live: 1-800-232-KRTH (5784).
