‘American Idol’: Top 13 Sing Stevie Wonder & Whitney Houston
Last night, the top 13 were revealed for the first time on American Idol with the boys performing Stevie Wonder classics and the girls paying tribute to the late Whitney Houston.
It wasn’t a great night for most contestant, but the two standouts of the night, Jessica Sanchez and Phillip Phillps, brought the judges and audience to their feet with stunning performances of Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” and Wonder’s “Superstitious.”
Jessica killed it with her performance of the difficult song “I Will Always Love You,” which made Steven Tyler say afterwards “Jessica, you may be the one. You just made 40 million people cry.”
Then on the boys’ side, it was Phillip Phillips who stole the show with his finale performing “Superstitious” like only he can. He made it his own interpretation and got the judges’ out of their seats in applause.
These are the two singers to watch out for this season. Tonight, someone goes home, and in a new twist, the judges will have the final say who goes home from the lowest scoring boy and girl.
