Did You Know: “Bennie And The Jets” By Elton John
Today on ‘Tickets @ 2′ it’s [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Elton John[/lastfm]’s “Bennie And The Jets.”
Elton was paying homage to “Glam Rock,” a style defined by outrageous costumes that were popular in the ’70s, especially in the UK. Elton himself was known for his costumes and collection of gaudy sunglasses.
It was Elton’s idea to stutter the vocal:”B-B-B-Bennie…”Taupin Elton’s lyricist thought it worked very well with the futuristic, robotic feel of the song.”
Elton didn’t think it would be a hit. He was pleasantly shocked when it reached #1 here in America, saying: “I rarely know which of my songs will be hits.”
When we play it between two and three we’ll take caller #14 at 1-800-232-KRTH (5784) to win a pair of tickets to Pacific Symphony’s “Casablanca” at the Segerstrom Center for The Arts in Costa Mesa.
