Announcing earlier this month that she and longtime friend turned companion Willie Wilkerson got engaged over the holidays, [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Aretha Franklin[/lastfm] has released a statement that they decided to call off the wedding.
The Queen of Soul released a statement on Monday calling off the engagement:
“Will and I have decided we were moving a little too fast, and there were a number of things that had not been thought through thoroughly. There will be no wedding at this time,” Franklin said. “We will not comment on it any further because of the very personal and sensitive nature of it. We appreciate all of the many well wishes from friends.”
Franklin, who has been married twice before, has even recently opened up about her dream wedding plans that included a summer wedding at a beach house on the Hamptons, a dress designed by Donna Karen or Vera Wang and celebrity friends like [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Smokey Robinson[/lastfm] and [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Stevie Wonder[/lastfm] to sing.
She also opened up about her relationship to Willie saying, “We’re very compatible, and he supports me and I support him a lot, and he has given me specialized attention that I don’t think I’ve received from anyone else.”
