It seems like the entertainment world wanted to end 2011 on a very high note, with several celebrity couples announcing their engagements over the holidays including actor Matthew McConaughey and NBA star LeBron James.
Adding to the list of holiday engagements is none other than the Queen of Soul, [lastfm link_type="artist_info"]Aretha Franklin[/lastfm], who said ‘yes’ to her longtime friend William “Willie” Wilkerson over New Year’s!
The 69-year-old singer announced her happy news and told the Associated Press on Monday that she and Wilkerson are planning on a summer wedding, possibly in Miami Beach, Florida, following with a private reception on a yacht to celebrate.
As for her wardrobe for the wedding, Franklin is considering gown designers Vera Wang, Valentino or Donna Karan to design the perfect dress to walk down the aisle.
This will be Franklin’s third marriage after her first two marriages to Ted White in 1961 (divorced in ’69) and actor Glynn Turman in 1978 (divorced in ’84).
When announcing her big news, Franklin joked, “No, I’m not pregnant.”
She joins other celebrities who popped the big question over the holidays like LeBron James and Savannah Brinson; Wynonna Judd and Cactus Moser; John Legend and Chrissy Teigen; Danny Gokey and Leyicet Peralta; Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves; and Britney Spears and Jason Trawick.
Congrats to the happy couple!
