A self-proclaimed “Buddy Holly connoisseur,” mega-producer [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Peter Asher[/lastfm] is throwing the ‘Ultimate Buddy Party’ in a special tribute concert airing this Saturday, Dec. 3rd on PBS.
The special features dozens of all-star performers singing their versions of all the classic Buddy Holly hits recorded on the tribute album Buddy Holly: Listen To Me. This morning, the fab Peter himself joined us to tell us more about this ultimate Buddy party and preview snippets of some of the songs featured, including one sung by his daughter’s famous pop group!
Peter Asher produced the Buddy Holly tribute album and concert to mark what would have been the singer’s 75th birthday this past summer.
Listen To Me features dozens of artists ranging from rock, folk, pop, blues and more giving their own unique spin to Buddy Holly classics. Peter even got his own daughter, Victoria Asher, and her hit pop group [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Cobra Starship[/lastfm] to sing an incredible modernized version of “Peggy Sue.”
The PBS special Buddy Holly: Listen To Me/The Ultimate Buddy Party airs this Saturday night at 10 PM, directly following another anticipated special hosted by Peter Noone and Davy Jones — ’60s Pop, Rock & Soul: My Music.’ Peter is co-hosting the special with musician Chris Isaak, with performances including Stevie Nicks, Lyle Lovett, Graham Nash, Raul Malo, Paul Anka, Boz Scaggs, Cobra Starship, and Phil Everly of the Everly Brothers.
