Best Sellers From The ’80s: Phil Collins’ “…But Seriously”
…But Seriously was an album of ‘fours’ for [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Phil Collins[/lastfm]: it marked a return to solo work after a four-year absence and spawned four hit singles.
It also went four-times platinum in the US for the Genesis drummer (and moved another 9,000,000 copies, more or less, in other parts of the world).
On the singles circuit, “Another Day in Paradise” was the album’s biggest hit — itself a Number 1 and a million-seller — while his collabortion with Eric Clapton, “I Wish It Would Rain Down,” reached the Number 3 spot in the US.
“Something Happened on the Way to Heaven” was the next tune to find Top 40 success, a Collins/Daryl Steurmer-penned Number 4 that was originally written for the movie, War of the Roses.
As the record was fading from the charts, “Hang in Long Enough” hung in long enough to grab a Number 23 placement on the Hot 100.
To top it off, a Grammy Award sits on Collins’ shelf for “Another Day in Paradise,” winner of Record of the Year.
