I have a confession to make … I was a huge fan of The Deadliest Catch on the Discovery Channel. Yes, something about following the ups and downs of life in an uncomfortable, backbreaking, and potentially life-threatening career appeals to me. Anyone else who is a fan of the show will instantly recognize this [lastfm link_type=”artist_info”]Bon Jovi[/lastfm] classic from its first notes, as it has been the theme song for several seasons.
“Wanted Dead or Alive” has actually gotten a great deal of play on both the big screen and the small screen, being featured in over a dozen films and television shows at various points since its release, Deadliest Catch being merely the most prominent.
The song was originally released as the third single off of Bon Jovi’s 1986 album Slippery When Wet. It made a bit of rock history when it peaked at #7, as this made Slippery When Wet the first hard rock album ever to have three top 10 singles off of it (the other two were “You Give Love a Bad Name” and “Livin’ on a Prayer”, both of which made it to #1 … and both of which were played endlessly by the Archivist’s younger brother for several years during visits home). Talk about uncomfortable, potentially life-threatening situations! (his, not mine, after I’d heard him sing along to “You Give Love a Bad” name for the fifth time in an hour).
Oh, and just to clear something up, the ‘steel horse’ Jon Bon Jovi refers to in the lyrics isn’t a motorcycle … it’s a tour bus. Perhaps a trifle less romantic, but he’s the songwriter.
